And all because one guy with too much time on his hands. I've been in ops for 20 years, I think I can imagine what the engineers at Zoom are going through given the pressure in combination with this pandemic.

And while it might seem I'm defending Zoom (=the company), I'm more defending Zoom (=the engineers), because these ppl are probably on the edge of burnout due to the pressure. And yes, I find it selfish to release this publicly without prior notice to them.

And I know you strongly disagree, but I won't change my opinion on the matter. Even when I'm in the minority about this ;-)

(and my final remark: I know I communicate my opinion quite strongly at first, and put the nuance later. I know I should work on that :-D )

Fair enough, but you're still throwing around the insults, "too much time on his hands"?. We believe consumers should be allowed to know about design flaws in the products they use, you don't have to agree, but why the insults and questioning our motivations?

Think about it like this, if you knew about a design flaw that cars from manufacturer X had a chance to explode in the first 100 miles, should you keep it quiet because consumers might "panic" and delay buying a new car for a while?

I think you would say yes, it's okay to put consumers at risk to protect business interests, you should give the manufacturer time to fix it. I would say no, you shouldn't hide truthful verifiable product safety information from consumers to protect a billion dollar corporation.

I'm gonna turn the question back to you: If you are a manufacturer, and something is seriously wrong with the safety of your product: would you like to be notified by mass media, or by the person who discovered it?

The person who discovered it for sure, that way I can make sure customers don't hear about it and choose a competitor with a better safety record or make expensive demands like "better qa"? ...Is that a good thing?

Oh ok, I f that is what you believe. I must have imagined pro-active recalls of cars by manufacturers then...

There are laws in place governing car safety now, those laws exist because of things like "the pinto memo" (google it). So yes, I think without laws, manufacturers will create pinto memos.... because that's what they did?

You're pretty easy to rattle for someone who was throwing around the insults earlier, I guess it's not as clear cut as you thought? 😛
