If you’re freaked out that your browser turned something called “DNS over HTTPS” on, you’re being bamboozled. DoH is a good thing.

I'm not sure I trust the motives of the biggest adserver corp in the world? Why are they anymore trusted to extract every ounce of your privacy than any other service provider? I think Google should revisit their don't be evil motto of old.

That is a confusing tweet, it sounds like you might think Google owns Cloudflare? That is not the case. If it helps, Cloudflare are legally bound to a retention policy negotiated by Mozilla, which you can read here https://developers.cloudflare.com/1.1.1.1/commitment-to-privacy/privacy-policy/firefox/ ….

Hey. I'm not confused. I get the op was about Mozilla Firefox but it's coming in android, chrome browser etc etc and that won't be cloudflare. You can't compare Google Chrome browser and Android numbers to Mozilla. So sure if you use FF on a Mac and are an individual then cool

That's still confusing, because Chrome is not doing anything like that, or planning to do anything like that? The Chrome plan is to essentially to only upgrade connections to your *existing* resolver, so how can that possibly be bad for privacy?

Don't try and beat me up with facts ;) just kidding :) Maybe their plans have changed since I last looked at DoH. When you say essentially upgrade my connection to my existing resolver do you mean that if your resolver can talk DoH then that is what will get used automatically?

Yep exactly that, AFAIK Android can support DoT for the system resolver, but I don't know of any plans for DoH outside of browsers. I'd be lying if I said I don't want more DoH though, but I have absolutely no say in the matter

I really want to like it but try to understand my concerns about it, I would really appreciate being convinced. I know it's not your job to convince me. I'm a big believer in the right to be wrong and to change one's opinion. I think you know a lot more about it than me hahaha :)

I can try, the default right now is to trust whatever is in DHCP, which means whoever owns the network. For most people, that's their ISP who are *documented* to abuse that data. Mozilla want to make a saner default that you can still override, and I think that's a good idea.

Documented and legally obliged to retain that data(I think for 7 years?) in case of any legal action or enquiry etc. Lots more to say :)
