This is beyond ridiculous: a Python code I wrote, given the same inputs, runs in around ~1 minute in my home Linux box, yet it takes around *20* minutes in my work Windows machine. Anybody has experienced something similar? Because I'm really struggling to understand WTF happens.

I'm guessing you're relying on Linux magic so if you read a file one byte at a time the cache will save you from the performance hit.

loool gotta emulate every text file on access in case it's a 16-bit DOS COM file that couldn't possibly execute on x64 anyway
