I don't think that they would give up this business branch because of the public outcry. But the political pressure might have this effect. Being banned by the US gov might be a scary enough perspective, with antivirus business still outweighing data considerably.

It's also possible that somebody started looking into their GDPR violations. I'm not a lawyer but I'm fairly certain that not all of their practices were legit. This is another reason why they might be inclined to stop the operation ASAP, before the investigation is concluded.
