And once key escrow exists you can expect warrants from counties with less protection than the US offers (less being somewhat tongue in cheek here)
I think it's a weaker argument because today we're already relying on Apple doing the right thing, and the argument goes that maybe they'll stop that if we make them use key escrow... but why?

Right, but the FBI described what they wanted - IIRC a signed firmware blob that removes the delay between PIN entries - they could easily build that?
