I’m really glad Olivia is covering NCII and looking at solutions.
She was one of only a couple of journalists who covered the 2017 FB pilot from the perspective of victims (the other being @kateconger). Most of the media just enjoyed posting snarky hot takes.https://twitter.com/oliviasolon/status/1196422970127867905 …

Think about it Alex. If you have to block before moderation, then I can send any image I want, right? It seems like either you don't really care about that latency, or you're already vulnerable to that attack anyway - either way, my system means don't have to share nudes, right?

FB isn’t going to block until an image has been confirmed. I expect that those images will be used to train classifiers to make proactive detection more likely next time.

i'm not making a judgement here, but Alex's point makes sense to me if you whitelist the photos upfront, there's an initial delay but you can thereafter immediately block the photo upon detection
-
if you wait until first detection to whitelist the photo, there's a delay where you can't block the photo (because it could be an innocent photo used as a denial-of-service). this is bad for the victim (photo isn't blocked immediately).
