The BlackHat TimeCube Crypto story is really weird. First off, they easily spent ~$150k on the whole debacle. Where did that money come from? Their parent company has raised $10Ms over the last 6 years: https://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?action=getcompany&CIK=0001557024&owner=exclude&count=40&hidefilings=0 …pic.twitter.com/JREqSsZ5cT

There are also ties with weird multi-level marketing schemes selling magic crystals. Their marketing copy has shown up (and since been scrubbed) from affiliate websites.

One of the co-subsidiary companies, Alphaeon, has also raised close to $100M and partially owns a publicly traded firm: EOLS https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1622667/000162266715000004/xslFormDX01/primary_doc.xml …pic.twitter.com/mmBZ6CeuQa

Then there's this Resonance Science institute, which has a lot of overlap with the Time AI people and are involved with the magic crystals: https://resonancescience.org/about/the-research-team/ … They also overlap with the "Hawaiian Institute for Unified Physics": https://hiup.org/people/

They were the most ridiculous, but who wins runner up? I legitimately saw a vendor selling a product that eliminates "single points of failure" in crypto systems by sharding the ciphertext. Um, doesn't that just make more points of failure? 🤔

I know what you're thinking... maybe they use reed solomon or something to add redundancy? No - they said you need all the shards, this makes their encryption quantum resistant or something. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This sounds like MPC explained very badly. :)

I thought the same, but I don't think so. This is their website, it really sounds like they just move shards of ciphertext around randomly. This is because ciphertext is like nukes and nukes are kept on submarines, you see? 😋https://www.cryptomove.com/what-is-mtd.html …
