that curl example gives me bad request. doesn't google, cloudflare et. al require the tls SNI to match the hostname now? though you can use any google load balancer IP for pretty much any host

Domain fronting is a technique for obfuscating SNI. Twitter mangles url, you'll have to take my word for it that it works, and SNI doesn't reveal the contents.
