Having worked on browser engines, I don't think this is a straightforward example of poor code. There are many optimizations that the complexity of the web platform means you have to disable in more complex conditions. (1/?)

I looked it up, the details were that: - polymer's html imports polyfill was the main source of slowness (this is also a deprecated chrome-only feature) - measurement was not scientific, so the numbers may be incorrect or non reproducible. But there was a noticeable perf diff
