sprintf overflow in GNU telnet? OpenBSD fixed this over 20 years ago, too bad the source hasn't been readily available.. oh wait. telnet client is also pledge(2)'d, same with ssh.

but you know, telnet is "insecure" so there's no need to fix any secutiry sceurity security issue in it.
