What are the constraints offered here by whitelisting to all of you? Where does the value-add lie and what are the limitations?

Use wmic to turn off application whitelisting (almost all of them are registry entries - at worst case set the service to disabled at boot). Then proceed as usual.

That's a good Step 3, but first you need to get to the point where you can run wmic.exe (the Step 2). That's the bit I'm lost on.

If you have antivirus installed, here is what I would do: Just write some code, mail it to you and say it's a flash update or whatever. If you have whitelisting installed, that won't work, so what do I do?

AV != logging != whitelisting. I think
@da_667 is assuming an endpoint agent with both AV and some logging, maybe even with some intelligence in the review. Makes for a more confusing discussion.
