It seems like you have a very poor understanding of the problem you're trying to solve.

Well that chart certainly seems conclusive, you should definitely architect your fleet based on that.

Ha. The chart is part joke. It really depends on all kind of factors. Most orgs haven’t even got backups working properly (see also ransomware) so AV has benefits for those orgs. For Google’s of world, they probably have a different world to manage.

Oh, I hear you. I see both sides.
@taviso has a really valid point in that orgs shouldn’t use AV as a boundary (and they largely don’t, more as a control). In reality most orgs - in the trench experience here - are all over the place with security and AV is a sticking plaster.1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

AV has both pluses and minuses, for many orgs it’s the only thing stopping constant Emotet infections (if it works) and ransomware (if it works). Those orgs should uplift themselves to a higher standard - but when selling crab paste and such they’re hardly an expert shop.

The reality of most enterprise IT is it’s five minutes to midnight and they’re constantly fighting to keep the lights on (let alone security concerns) so AV can at least help keep things rolling. Many orgs view IT as a tax on business. There’s a long journey ahead.

I get it, but you were using the language of security. If your org is literally paralyzed with reimage tickets, then the reality is av might reduce strain. But make no mistake, you have not improved security: your network is ripe for the picking of anyone who wants it.

All of you forgot the most important function that AV serves - to make the compliance team go away. :D
