There are no "usual tricks" that make patching untenable to Administrators, if there were, we would do that. This is one of those "immutable laws of computer security".

No, because that's not what I'm arguing here. I don't think DRM is necessary or good. I think TM&© are. I don't think you lack a right to modify sw on your own computer. I do think you lack a right to put modified sw in front of a user who's unaware it's modified.

You're dropping the DRM argument, and now you're only arguing for the legal thing? To make sure we're on the same page, you believe that owning a computer does not give you the right to alter the software on it?

Yes because I work for an organization small enough that I must contemplate the deeply technical as well as the brand/business aspects. The tech inside me cringes at the notion, but sometimes there is good cause to make it a crime to edit the memory space of your software...

None of us are lawyers, but I find it hard to believe that preventing some UX element from being visible is illegal. If it is, then how come adblockers are legal?
