she was slightly more subtle about it than lewis but only slightly. my parents never gave me a lion, the witch, and a wardrobe book because they knew it wasn't for me and would only disappoint me. when they gave me harry potter they didn't know it was essentially about christ.

had they known? i don't think they would have gone out of their way to procure the first book for me like they did. not that they ever denied me a book i wanted to read, just when they picked books for me they were quite thoughtful about making sure i'd feel good and empowered.

and yes, i know many of our favorite books are christian narratives in some capacity. i just think it's worth considering if you aren't christian and you are mourning the legacy of harry potter to consider you were never the audience she was preaching to.
