I'm pretty sure lowering your voice is recommended in like half a dozen executive self-help books (mostly from the '80s).

Also, people frequently recommend to me that I change my voice: I've been told I need to speak slower, louder, less softly, and yes deeper more times than I can count.

I used to try to follow the instructions, now I tell people that they need to listen more carefully.
