100%. Actually, comes up daily in the child abuse program. We still don’t do a good job teaching people about their bodies. Can’t just “do a check” to make sure “nothing happened”.

1)Yes. They want to be “cleared” for surgery. No one is cleared. They maximized medically for certain level of risk suregeties- low risk@vs high risk.

Not only ones who want "clearance". I regularly get requests for "clearance" from surgeons. Have begun to use
@aoglasser 's language about optimizing risk instead. As to TV/media setting expectations of miracles? There's a lot of magical thinking out there. TV makes it worse. - 5 more replies

After nearly every lumbar puncture I have performed, the patient will say “Wow, that was nowhere near as bad as they make it look on TV!” also, love that the medical dramas insist on referring to it as a “spinal tap” because it sounds more scary!
