Your approach (call it "pay first") happens to a small degree at places with open salary and employment data, and I've found it has dramatic side effects, all of them positive. Orgs that pay women more put women in roles that generate more value, and coworkers work better - cycle

And yet, I've met dozens of women who were paid less than men for the same job. In fact my mother was the first... she at one point as a *manager* was paid nearly 15% less than a male *subordinate*. I was a teen at the time and it was my first exposure to this. I was shocked!

In my granted one person personal experience asking for compensation equal to what men with less experience and credentials than I have more often results in never hearing from the employer or client again. Not even a negotiation.
