I cannot understand why people with power and influence are throwing down for rental assistance when tenants have been screaming for #CancelRent for six months. Rent cancellation was and still is the only viable, just solution for tenants.

What is the solution for landlords? How do they pay their own bills if people don’t pay their rent? 
Exactly. People don't understand, some landlords don't do it for profit. I rent out the 2nd & 3rd floor of my house utilities included. But taxes, insurance, water bills, utilities repairs etc. don't go away during a pandemic.
Only the federal government can cancel rents -- Contracts Clause of the US Constitution. And if the federal government were to do that it would need to reimburse the landlords because of the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.
does it also cancel the rent for the 10,000 5 bedroom penthouse? and who pays the landlord, the govmt? would it not be easier just to give the money directly to Tennant and they could pay rent etc? how many months in proposal
