Departments don't only need to teach qualitative methods. They need to also teach non-positivist logics. Canton explains why. (tl;dr for political scientists: if your research methods course centers KKV, you're marginalizing an enormous chunk of the field.)

The constant pressure for β€œrepresentativeness,” β€œgeneralizability,” β€œcomparison groups,” and β€œsample size” are irrelevant for a great deal of qualitative work. Even many senior scholars seem to misunderstand this.

How’s everyone’s Twitter love/loathe metre lately? I haven’t regretted deleting the app, but I am missing the interaction and networks with people who do cool research.
Guilty of sharing the previous thread. Please read this one. Activists are certainly at risk of execution and it's horrifying, but accurate reporting matters. ohchr.org/en/press-relea

The widely shared claim that the Iranian regime has committed to executing 15,000 detained protesters is not true. Please stop sharing it. The Iranian regime is horrific, brutal and ruthless as it actually is. There's no need to make up stories.

I (regrettably) read through the entire article and what an incredible example of how in elite academic research you can pick and choose data to suit your unbased narrative and still make it past ethics and to publication

THREAD. Two Harvard professors published an academic article calling for 500,000 more armed cops, who they say will arrest 7.8 million more people per year. The article reveals alarming flaws in elite academia at a time of rising fascism. This is one of my most important posts.

"Sweden faces hardly any backlash from its backward-looking biodiversity policies. Its administrative culture of consensus does not value dissent and the country historically benefits from its reputation as a moral superpower."

This is like that time #swedengate went viral and the state psychological defence agency literally conducted an investigation to check if it were a foreign influence operation rather than assume people might have something negative to say about Sweden

Asian-American woman makes a thread about racism in Sweden. Instead of acknowledging that yes, there's racism in Sweden, Swedes are suggesting she's hired by the Chinese government to make Sweden look bad πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ™„
