#Statcast How do outfielders generally perform when running in, side-to-side, or back?
Conversation
You may notice running in / side-to-side end up criss-crossing. Has to do with projected distance set at z=0 for all plays. This will change
Ball is in the air for 4 seconds from bat-contact: running in will let you cover 6 more feet than running back.

#Statcast Are outfielders playing too deep? Proper positioning is when wBABIP going back matches going in. Average OF is playing too deep.

wBABIP is weighted BABIP, meaning instead of "1" for each hit, you get "0.9" for a single and "1.3" for an extra base hit.

Eventually I'd split up all PA by game conditions, so that neutral conditions serve as better comparison point...1/2

Ok, well, wBABIP comes straight from wOBA. Just remove SO, BB, HB, (over the fence) HR from numerator+denominator.
I use "Standard wOBA", so all non-singles, including inside the park HR, get a value of 1.3.
