A not Happy Good Friday to my fellow Christians. Observing this solemn day with humility and grace for myself and my fellow humans - except the pedophiles and those who shield them.

Anatomy would just be so so so much easier if we just used the words for the things instead of the latin words for the things. "Macrophage?" No, "Bigeater." "Epicardium?" No. "Outheart." "Cubital fossa?" NO! "Elbow dip!"

As part of the Great Resignation who wants desperately to get back to work (plz save me from these kids & laundry!), I’m determined to only take a job if it is fun. Is that too much to ask?

  7. Today CDC released data that 1 in 4 LGBTQ youth attempted suicide in the first half of 2021. When we discriminate against ppl on topics like same-sex marriage, workplace discrimination, trans athletes, K-3 ed: queer teens are listening, internalizing, and suffering.

Being an takes a toll. I feel like I am from nowhere, and everywhere. Being in New Jersey for the weekend- the place I lived the longest consecutive amt of time, at 7 years- is bittersweet. Before all the Gen X parental drama too.

I really hate when journalists cover scientific stories but don't understand the science so all they cover is personal drama and innuendo, plus they are easily manipulated by their sources.

"We wanted to know what would be appropriate at this stage of the pandemic for those most vulnerable to Covid harms. So we asked several white, double-private-health-insured professionals working from the safety of their homes in the toniest zip codes in their state."

It is really something to sit in a budget hearing where students of color talk about their mental health struggles during the pandemic...and then to also hear an affluent parent testify that his school needs "more baseball fields." This city, goodness.

Today's Covid #'s merit less restrictive behavior & policies. If we surge again, we'll need to choose response. I'd argue a response like CA's or SF's would be best. Had US matched CA's death rate, 234K deaths would have been averted to date; if matched SF's, 663K averted (1/4).

  18. for I interviewed an ICU nurse who left their staff job to pursue travel nursing and made more than 2x what they would have at a staff job. Their story reveals a lot about nurses' needs, burnout, attrition & reckoning with pandemic grief.

I gave birth during finals week and went in 2 days later to proctor my exams. Two years later I (was thankfully working elsewhere) delivered a full-term stillborn angel at Christmas. I was back in the classroom 3 weeks later bc I couldn’t afford to quit.
