terrific new paper by Michael Fakhri offers an insider's account of the UN Food Systems Summit, a huge, ambitious, & expensive endeavor whose real innovation was obfuscation: an "inter-corporate contest that did not have any substantive regard for social justice or human rights."

The UN Food Summit was held last Sept. It's proven useless to tackle the food crisis-as predicted. My latest piece focuses on the meat debate @ Summit -->reflects how the Summit was a poor attempt at corporate green washing. Open access for 8 weeks: link.springer.com/article/10.100 1/2

So excited to announce the publication of "Sustainable agrifood systems for a post-growth world" in Nature Sustainability 🎉 rdcu.be/cS3kA We argue for a fundamental redesign of food systems, not more incrementalism, to overcome the growth paradigm 🧵1/5

hear hear. this is also the difference between "organic" (agnostic on political change) and the agroecological revolution (toward food sovereignty).

We thought it was worth unpacking that story a bit further, looking at what happened in #SriLanka's case and what other countries' transitions to #organicfarming have looked like in the past. Let's dive in 👇agrowingculture.substack.com/p/going-organi

1. More climate change-induced heatwaves means greater stresses on an already fragile global food system. “The agriculture sector itself can transform into something that mitigates climate change.” Industrial agriculture is driving extinction. Change now.
