By the way, the recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital will bring cheers from the death cult wing of the Evangelicals, who believe that this is a necessary step toward Armageddon. (Because of course, God would wait for Trump to do something before making a decision.)
That’s fair, and I know that’s what you meant. But I don’t believe in a malevolent God (or benevolent for that matter). And I’d like to see it more as a bad joke than a punishment, but perspective is everything!

Your choice to believe so, Me, I think there is a God and a Just one at that .. And at some point, we will have to answer for ALL our actions.
-
So we get two scoops of punishment? Yeah, I am more of a Spinozist, so this talk of a personal God with feelings/desires/petty need for revenge is an anthropomorphization of our own failings and strivings for perfection.
-
Again, your choice to think that. I believe that if you reek havoc on God's creation as we have done for so long, you will incur the punishment of the owner of this creation. It's not petty revenge, it is justice.
-
Yes but what you are ascribing to God has rational explanations that come from the immanence of our actions bearing fruit, rather than the transcendence of a willed reaction. Occam’s razor at this point.
-
The two are not mutually exclusive. If you see a poor person, take a dollar and put it in his hand, was that your action? Yes. But what transpired around you to put you in at that moment in that position to make that decision?

-
You can call that God, if you want to, but following a series of causes and effects doesn’t require a transcendent principle. Again, I am more comfortable following the lines of Spinoza in his description of Deus sive natura, because it weeds out transcendent explanations
-
LOL!! You kind of have me at a Disadvantage as I have not taken a Philosophy class since college and I have a VERY low opinion of the discipline. But You can chose to believe what you wish I suppose.

-
It’s fine. I will say that I grew up in a Christian home and have studied the Bible rigorously (first book I ever read front to back). What do you think inspired me to read philosophy? (Spoiler: Job and Ecclesiastes).
