I forget how the quote goes and can't find it. Something about freedom being highest/most valuable amidst tyranny. I am botching the quote.

Very true. I have given up finding the quote, but I always considered Socrates as Plato's martyr at the hands of Greek democracy, biased?

Yes, that is true. The Cynics of old aren't quite the rampant cynicism one would find today. Much less resigned and defeatist.
