This is fair, and I understand. I meant more in terms of tone and setting. I understand the desire to go broad from publisher positions, but in this case I don't think it helped sales. Maybe better to stand out somehow? I dunno

I generally think trailers only really hurt sales if badly edited or the game's low quality can't be obfuscated. Also keep in mind that trailers are frequently put through focus group testing. Something like that could've revealed that this was the "better" approach!
