      what version are you using? what does it say under the play button on the launcher? (the thing you click to start playing minecraft)

      On the launcher, try the following: 1) click Launch options 2) click Add New 3) Click the Version drop down menu 4) select release 1.12.1 5) click save 6) go back to News 7) Click the arrow to the right of play 8) select the new 1.12.1 version you saved 9) click play + try again
