I'm wrestling with why it is that watching people play Doom makes me want it, whereas the trailers completely turned me off.
They never conveyed the fluidity of action + problem solving in the trailers. They didn't say anything about the way it feels

Also the design of getting health from melee attacks is what's attractive to me. But trailers don't show UI, so that's all lost.

I find in-house teams at publishers draw heavily from film + TV production. great for narrative, fairly awful for mechanics
