Today is the Juneteenth holiday. On June 19th 1885 , the American Civil War ended and around 250,000 slaves were freed. Although they were (mostly) legally free, the racist actions of slavery and white supremacy would echo for generations to come, affecting Black lives today
Today we celebrate the "official" end of the horrors of the Atlantic slave trade, whilst acknowledging that just because slavery ended doesn't mean things were great for Black people. There's still a ton of work to be done here, today, before Black Lives truly Matter
