Is an explanation needed to get rid of statues of slave traders? Do they want to remember their problematic past? Germany took down their statues of h*tler a long time ago despite him being a part of their history.
So sad that statues of slave traders are being removed, without them how will we remember the history of *checks source* 2 white men shaking hands after putting up the statue in 1997

lots of people defending the removal of these statues as "erasing history" unfortunately. the hitler statue thing is a good reference, everyone remembers who he is, we don't need statues celebrating him

I agree it’s part of history and the statue isn’t celebrating that person it’s showing people that that person wasn’t good so everyone can learn about how that was a bad part of history, doesn’t mean we need to erase it. It still happened even though it was bad.
