If you want to be a more inclusive workplace, don't force remote workers (or job candidates) to be on webcam. Some people (often trans people) feel severe anxiety about having to put their face on cam. If it's not critical to your work, just use voice!
Face/Body language is a small benefit, but outweighed by the negatives of causing people anxiety. No cam also has a 'curb cut' effect where it benefits everyone - even if you don't have anxiety, if you're having an awful day + feel bad, you aren't forced to broadcast it
I'd honestly go so far as to say that it's negligent to force any trans person to put their face on a camera, especially during global lockdown where access to services is limited. Imagine experiencing severe dysphoria from your face, then having to look at it on a zoom call
never done that and I don't understand why would you ask someone to turn on camera. worked together with a person for a year and still dunno how they look, because and it doesn't matter at all. so yes preach
