A lot of people don't know this but I'm actually of Indigenous descent. My biological father's parents were a Māori woman and a white Australian man. So I'm 1/4 Māori, but since I grew up as a white boy in England I feel reeaaally weird about identifying as it

I have pale white skin. I never faced any of the discrimination that Māori people face every day. They were the nicest people, but I think you need more than blood to belong somewhere. And it feels like appropriation to claim that identity, having never suffered because of it

New Zealand + Australia were beautiful though. If you can afford to, I recommend visiting at least once. Beautiful landscapes. The kindest, funniest people. Great grub. Would love to go back someday
