As a white person growing up in the UK where <20% of people were BAME/ non-white, I've absolutely benefited from being white. I fit in wherever I go. I've politely talked my way out of police encounters. I've never worried a police officer will kill me because of how I look

My sister is mixed-race, her father is a black African. And despite growing up in better circumstances than me, she has to face discrimination, condemnation, slurs + aggression that I will never have to face because my Dad had light skin and hers didn't. Irrational, and awful
