      one time when I was 12 I said "You stink!" at someone in toontown and they replied with ":-(" & it made me feel so deeply bad that I genuinely think it was a turning point for me being a kinder person online

      the internet removed the feedback loop of insulting someone, seeing them be hurt and feeling bad / shame, kids can insult people anonymously and have zero emotional consequences. we need more ":-(" online tbh
