Yeah, how hard would it be to fake a friend or two, or to just have dead parents. Anything else would be less weird/suspicious. It can't be that.

I think we can rule it out much more easily by the fact that a) she met the guy specifically on a dating site (why would any UC do that??) and b) they've been together for 4 years and talk marriage. Unless she's investigating OP himself, she would've had to split up w/ him by now

Right, but with these cases having happened so long ago (roughly a decade now) I'd imagine the higher-ups have taken extra monitoring measures to avoid another media disaster like that.

Has anyone considered that maybe she is in witness protection? And has to keep all aspects of her life separate for safety reasons?

It's possible, but lowkey if I'm marrying someone and spending the rest of my life with them, I'm telling them I'm in witness protection. I wouldn't give them any details that would compromise them, but I think it's unethical to not disclose that at least vaguely

Yeah but according to the WITSEC rules, you are literally not allowed to tell your spouse. See point 9https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/77695/12-secrets-witness-protection-program …

You should know that the person who made the original Reddit post is most likely from the UK and not the US. I'm a bit too lazy to go over the rest of the text again and look for other giveaways, but he used the word "uni" where almost any American would use "college".

yeah I assumed that just based off the way they spoke. Also lowkey, I would still tell my spouse I was in witness protection lol, if we've been together like 5+ years and plan to live together forever and have kids, they should at least know that something happened (no details)

May I chime in with a comment/questions? If you are in the Witness Protection, wouldn’t they come up with some sort of back story to avoid an outsider from catching in this easily? It’s something I assumed but never read up on.
