Go to PAX.
E3 is a wild and cool spectacle, but PAX is how I dreamed E3 would be as a kid. It's built for fans, not business meetings, and it's worth your time/money far more!
Gamescom is fun too if you aren't US-based. In the UK, Rezzed and EGX aren't at the same scale but give some of the same vibe (meeting people, lots of games etc)
