I’ve heard the ESA have been vetting a statement about E3’s status with various publishers and vendors, following an emergency meeting to discuss the event’s status/future.https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/1237558576110944259 …

If publishers realise the cost of exhibiting and doing a big live presentation at E3 isn't worth the returns, they will stop attending. This drops the "business meeting" value of the event - less people = less meetings, this is what caused GDC to cascade and fail
-
As soon as the platforms dropped out of GDC, suddenly the value of attending for most publishers and studios and devs was zero because there was nobody to pitch to. Most of my friends quietly cancelled their flights before the event was cancelled because no platforms = no value

E3 doesn’t happen in July or Anaheim and the entire draw is having one place where the major outlets, devs and publishers will all be for a week. You don’t get that with Directs.

june and LA con center, my bad, but the point still stands. if E3 becomes a series of meetings in hotel bars with no live conferences and limited show floor present, that's the spirit of the event "dead" for most attendees + you'll see pubs/platforms/studios shift to other events
