Do you think there’s any real danger that one season of everyone doing Nintendo direct style events is enough to kill or at least permanently change the businesses dynamics of E3? I know it’s kind of a meme to say this, but feels like a real possibility.
Of course. Exhibiting at E3 is ludicrously expensive and takes a lot of your team a lot of time to setup. If E3 is postponed or cancelled due to health concerns it will be the perfect time for companies to experiment with 'direct' style broadcasts + they'll realise it's better
It’s only better if it translates into sales, attention. E3 isn’t just press conferences. A lot of behind closed doors presentations, Q and As, and deals as well.
I'm well aware - as many of my biz dev friends will tell you, 95% of the value of E3 is meetings in hotel bars. This is not sustainable for a conference Q+As can be done on streams. "Closed door presentations" don't need to happen in one week in July in Anaheim
