I’d love to see an analysis of the rate of new PC game ownership in 2019 vs 2018. I expect it’s way up due to Epic Games Store. Gamers who redeemed all free 2019 games received more than $1000 in value, while Epic paid participating devs for the giveaways.https://twitter.com/MatPiscatella/status/1220476709742317568 …

Tim's post already answers this he states: "Gamers who redeemed all free 2019 games received more than $1000 in value, while Epic paid participating devs for the giveaways" So yes, Epic is paying for all those free games.

They paid for them with Fortnite money, but for sure not "1000$ value". Giveaway compensation is much lower than claimers * store value.

1000$ value cited is for consumers, not for devs. Dev compensation is lower, but more than they would have made without the giveaway, hence why they agree to do it

Is not true for customers too, because is only about price in certain time ignoring another sales of that game, fact that some of them customers bought before giveaway. It's promo number same as "free" games value within PS+ , Xlive multiplayer fees. Ofc compensation is lower.

Well if you're going that route this is a pointless semantic argument. Cited value is obviously on games full price in store. It's a ballpark figure, anything else would be silly. I'm muting this conversation now lol, I don't bother arguing semantics with people online

Yeah "value" is a stupid assessment when it doesn't consider historic best discount. That's just not appropriate for the gaming model or the PC software model in general. Magazines used to do it. "Over $500 value on this cover disc!!!" It's all discontinued 5+ year old stuff.
