They're not Scrappy upstarts who started a business in their parents garage in the Midwest, they're people who lived in or moved to the bay area specifically to start A Startup and seek VC investment, the primary reason people bother paying California corporation + income tax
I know multiple people who order in food every night because they can afford to and they don't care. It's not even a bad thing necessarily, it just distances them from the normal human experience - and you're surrounded by only people like that, in a culture of excessive funding
Oh yeah I totally understand how it does happen. I’d still argue that it’s objectively a bad thing because it distances them further and further from being rooted in the local community
