Have you played it Jason? There's an absurd amount of items and gear that are already in the game. They currently dont even have a second male character to play as. It's the same male for all characters currently. Saying it would be too much work.. could very well be true.
I'd recommend reading the tweets from career animators, 3D artists, riggers etc calling this out as BS. With modern tools and workflows it isn't double the work like people are saying - you use all the same models and just retarget / tweak everything, very standard these days
