Volunteers at events work so hard for no money, the least you can do is give them free food and drinks. The job is often standing on your feet for long shifts with minimal breaks, having to smile and politely help attendees. Or better yet... pay them!

One of the main problems that I have with insomnia is the lack of shits they appear to give about their volunteers, we get a crappy T-shirt and a load of leftovers from other events
-
Sorry to hear that, it's been many years since I've been involved. During my time we had a new volunteer manager who tried her best to fight management on behalf of volunteers, things got a lot better for a minute

WHAT!? I volunteer at a large number of events and have (thankfully) never come across someone that shitty, I didn't think it was possible!

"penny-pinching" is the word that comes to mind. Most events are good, changed for the better, but there are still a few where volunteers are treated like garbage, unpaid free labour

See also the trans volunteer who was told they weren’t allowed to use restroom that matched their gender identity and so just stopped coming to events altogether after 4+ years of being a part of the community.
-
Not sure when that was, but a similar thing happened about 15 years ago in the LAN community. Seeing that reaction shoved me back in the closet for 11 years.

That still happens every couple of events. You'll be told you can't take any more because they've run out, and then later in the event you'll find a crate-full being used to prop a door open.
