I'm a Pokemon gym leader from the early part of the game. I have two Pokemon, both level 15 or below, neither of them evolved. My job is to get the shit kicked out of me by children on a daily basis. I'm the most respected person in town.

My headcanon is they picked easy Pokemon to bring out intentionally so you can win

There's actually info in the trainer cards in the new game that says this about the first gym leader. Says he goes easy on new trainers

That's neat! There are still other logical consistencies with the tournament structure (how easy they are to beat with type matching) - if I were creative director I'd pitch something radically different, like mixed type teams focused around one specific strategy + pokemon

I would love it if you could fight the gyms in any order and they'd use different teams based on your badge count.

I actually thought this was going to happen when they said I needed to beat the first 2 gyms before challenging the main gym. Unfortunately they stuck to formula, but eh, maybe there's room for more radical experimentation in future

I think it would be cool if you could refight them whenever and they'd change their team up. I hope they don't do national Dex ever again and head focus on making the game better with a smaller pool of Pokemon.

I'm honestly down, I'm a casual player and I'm really enjoying the game. I wish they were a bit more bold / experimental, but I love that every new Pokemon is well designed and interesting and makes we want to legitimately catch them all!
