Both @discordapp + @SlackHQ should have priority levels for mentions
If you need an answer ASAP, you can use the urgent / hard tag. If you just want to make someone aware of something, you can use the soft tag. Users are encouraged to only review soft tags when they have time

Since there's only one method of mentioning a user, you end up stuck in this place where you're either: tagging people over trivial stuff when they're not online / not working, or you don't tag someone and risk them missing the message, even when not time-sensitive

Slack / Discord as comms tools are brilliant and have solved many problems, but they create new problems of urgency + volume. People feel indebted to read endless scrollback so they don't miss anything + constantly check notifications ending in a horrible always online mentality

The old ways of email chains sucked, but are all our new ways better? Is it better to get tagged after work in a thread that could wait til tomorrow, but feel you have to check it because sometimes it's urgent? Is it good to worry about missing important msgs in scrollback?

With both platforms I feel like we've given users / orgs powerful tools but with zero guidance on how to use them effectively, resulting in environments that are just as bad as the old ways, but in fresh and innovative terrible ways
