How does one fix a bad sleeping schedule?

I regularly have terrible sleep cycles, and besides the clichés (drink less, relax before bed, don't use phone in bed) there are really only 2 hard resets - either force yourself to go to sleep early, or stay up all night and then sleep at normal time the next day
