It's particularly hard for stuff like gamedev and also digital art, music, and content creation (videos / streams) be wise anyone can start doing these in their own homes, there's fewer barriers to entry, so more people are like "I can try to do this as a career"

exactly this. The bedroom coders of the 80s set an expectation that making a game in your spare time could make you rich. I've met plenty of teenagers who think they'll have a music career but I don't think it looks as intuitively plausible, cos guitars predate the music industry
