This here is the correct take: Jonathan Blow is viewing indie from the old standards of "his generation" of indie dev - they saw progress as mechanical innovation. He's not seeing or counting the added non-mechanical innovations that make indie feel exciting to many devs now.https://twitter.com/metasynthie/status/1135562692826189830 …

You know, I'd honestly be curious to see some sort of Indie Game: The Movie sequel, with the next wave of indie devs discussing the changes and what experiences they've had. Indie has blossomed a lot since then and there's so many new voices that should be heard.

NoClip, other YouTube channels and about a dozen podcasts all help fill that void tbh. It's not like back then where we have one polished indie movie, you can listen to creators talk about their work all over the shop

That's a very fair point! Most of my knowledge of recent indie has been through twitter or friends in the area, so it never occurred to me to seek out dev podcasts. That, and I just don't really listen to podcasts much. If you have any recommendations, let me know.

It's very good, and free which is brilliant! I absolutely love NoClip. But it's edited and editorialised (for good reason) whereas the podcasts, NoClip's included, is almost raw recordings of devs talking about themselves and their lives, and it's way longer (no video editing)

You can go listen to Sid Meier explain his entire career, with context, for like 6 hours on Designer Notes. No chance of that on video

Oh, forgot Designer Notes. It's a great resource too. Especially love the Soren one (interviewer gets interviewed)

Coincidentally they just uploaded a 2+ hour one with Rami, I chuckled when it popped into the feed yesterday
