I agree, they can... Maybe it’s just my experience but games have never had stories powerful enough, or characters interesting enough to resonate. Pressing buttons to release dopamine in my head doesn’t qualify for me.

Influenced your life how though?! And I don’t mean spending so much time on it that you can’t see anything but coloured bricks. I love Tetris. I started a craze at my school by setting a massive high score on a version of it in my teens. Changed the way I think about life? Nope.

Joy, experience, catharsis. Making you see the world differently. Guess it comes down to how you define influence, but there are people with Tetris tattoos, people for who it was the game they played in hospital to take their mind off reality, an escape from depression etc
