There's no ambiguity when you are buying a used game. You know it is used, that's why the price is what it is.
Preowned games are better for a few reasons: the game was guaranteed sold as a new game at retail price, meaning money went to the devs (not the case with resold keys). Additionally the practice is so wide that many publishers factor this in to their pricing + services

There's also an argument to be made that the existence of a resale market encourages new game sales. That said, with preowned games devs also get zero direct dollars from your purchase. So it's still better to buy new if you want to support the development of the games you love

Then why is steam pricing for AAA the same as console disc pricing? If I buy a AAA title on PS4 I can get money back trading it in, whereas Steam is the same price without that option. AAA publishers are to the gaming industry what music publishers are to the music industry

It's a complicated issue that isn't well suited to a tweet or twitter thread. Essentially, physical distribution works very different to digital distribution. Many units are sold in bulk deals up front to stores (and online retailers) with limited 'shelf space'. Too much to type
