Makes me wonder how much long-term damage it does when people with big followings continue to screencap and share these dumb or awful messages from people with no followings, amplifying them and creating narratives that would never have existed otherwise. That tweet has 2 likes.

I barely follow enthusiast game stuff at this point and was aware of a dumb outrage thing over a Spiderman suit. I find it hard to believe it's only two guys with two followers going on about this stuff.

the anger about the suit not being in the game was definitely real, people being angry it isnt close enough to the film? probably just this guy.

You're going to tell me there's an emotional difference between people being upset about not being provided a specific costume for their digital action figure and said costume not living up to their expectations? All seems pretty equally silly!

Nahh it's all incredibly silly but my point is that amplifying outrage so trivial and insignificant just leads to more of that outrage (and more weariness w/ that outrage). To take it to the most extreme end, there's a reason that de-platforming Milo Y worked so well

Not to be a dick here, but I would suggest that going after people with a couple hundred followers for amplification is pretty insignificant compared to Kotaku covering it twice. https://kotaku.com/spider-man-ps4-players-are-still-holding-out-hope-for-t-1831157127 …https://kotaku.com/surprise-the-sam-raimi-suit-is-now-in-spider-man-ps4-1831228831 …

Same. I had no idea about any of it until it was amplified on Kotaku. It amplifies, it grows, people gain confidence and take things further. It can be intellectualised, it can be justified in a million ways, but articles like that are tabloid journalism for a new age, end of.
