Jason, you seem hellbent on not believing when a developer says they work long hours out of passion for their project. Is it that beyond the realm of possibility for you? I myself have worked unpaid hours out of passion many times, as I’m sure you have too. Why the “hmmm”?
As a manager, it's your job to ensure your employees don't overwork themselves. It's a cop-out to say "oh, they are passionate, they want to work". NO! If your workers are working to long, send them home! Give them breaks. Force them to take holiday. It's unsustainable and bad
You’re making MANY assumptions here about the inner workings of Rockstar. All of what you said is speculation, and the 100 hour thing has been clarified by Dan Houser himself in that it actually referred to the higher ups putting in these hours and not the rest of the workforce.
nah, it's based off reports from people who worked on GTA4, GTAV and RDR1, plus the fact the CEO himself said in an interview they were working 100s of hours. If I've been up most of the night for production support I've had managers give me a half day off before. You're a good manager if you look out for the well being of your employees, some are oblivious to it. Those people are not good managers.
